Can’t Close Your Garage Door Properly? Here’s the Easiest Way to Fix a Coned Roller Door

If your roller door curtain rolls up unevenly, with one end ‘coning’ out, and the bottom rail appears out of parallel with the door roll and guides, follow these steps to fix it.

How to Diagnose and Fix the Coning Issue

  • Check the Brackets: Ensure the brackets are level with each other.
  • Centralise the Axle: The axle should be correctly centralised in the roll (refer to the diagram below). If the brackets are level, remove the coning by moving the axle through the roll in the opposite direction to the coning, about the length of the coning.

How to Prevent Roller Door Coning

If an automatic operator is fitted, you can prevent coning by pinning the curtain before setting up the operator. To achieve this, use bolts of suitable length to secure the curtain layers to the drum wheel at both ends, thereby locking the curtain in place and preventing uneven operation.

This simple fix will help ensure that the roller door operates smoothly without the potential for coning, which can be caused by the operator driving the curtain from one end.
