Learn More About Our Range of WindLock Roller Doors

Our steel WindLock roller doors feature windclip fixings that offer added security and protection against the elements. These clips prevent the door from dislodging during violent storms and gusts, making them ideal for Australia’s A and B wind regions.

With widths ranging from 1550 mm to 5100 mm, these wind-locked doors are suitable for most residential garages and buildings. To order a custom width, select the option nearest to your door’s width and enter your measurements. Note that the widths are for your door, not the opening. For wind-locked doors, please add 100mm to the nominal opening size.

Need something tougher? Our WindStrong doors are the perfect fit for cyclonic wind regions.

Made in Australia to Suit Your Specific Requirements

Our WindLock roller doors are made by Taurean Door Systems, a trusted Australian manufacturer with over three decades of experience. Taurean-made doors feature:

  • Durable COLORBOND® steel that lasts against rust and rain
  • Wide range of classic colours to fit any garage style, with options including Cottage Green®, Deep Ocean®, and Night Sky®
  • Excellent construction that meets the AS/NZS 4505:2012 safety standard

Wind-Locked and Weather-Resistant

According to the 2019 amendment of the National Construction Code, all roller doors must be correctly rated for the wind speed of the building; otherwise, the space the door occupies will be considered an opening.

Wind-locked doors are designed for structures in Australia’s A and B regions. The extra brackets and clips prevent the curtain from blowing inwards so that your property and cars stay safe from potential damage. The bigger your door, the more brackets you’ll need; refer to the installation guide for more details.

Please note that we don’t supply fasteners with the door, as suitable fasteners will depend on your building’s material.

Frequently Asked Questions

WindLock garage doors are specifically designed for high-wind areas. While the door itself is made of the same durable COLORBOND® steel as our other roller door shutters, they include innovative wind clips that prevent the door from blowing in during violent storms. This prevents damage to the building’s walls and the cars or objects inside.

To install windlocks for roller doors, follow your garage door’s regular installation instructions, ensuring you leave at least 35mm additional clearance for the windclips. Replace the track installation instructions with the following steps:

  1. Slide brackets onto the track from the bottom. The number of brackets you’ll require depends on the width and height of your garage door.
  2. Position the tracks in place and fasten them at the top and bottom.
  3. Position one track bracket in line with each windclip.
  4. Install a fastener in the centre of the bracket slot to secure it.

Refer to the Taurean Doors WindLock roller door instructions to learn how to install WindLock roller doors in more detail. Note that we don’t include fasteners with our doors, as the appropriate fastener will depend on your building’s materials. Please check with your shed designer to learn which fastener will suit your needs.

Ensure that you regularly maintain your roller shutter and tighten any loose parts that may rattle in the wind. If you still have issues with the shutter, check with a professional for help.

Strong winds can certainly wear down a door shutter over time—and when it gets stormy, your door can even break right open! Wind locks for roller doors help prevent breakage, enabling the door to bend under high pressure rather than blowing right off. Forced entry tends to apply pressure in the same way as wind, so roller door wind locks also help prevent break-ins.

The 2019 amendment to the National Construction Code states, “The full area of doors, including large access doors (e.g. roller doors) and windows that are normally closed, shall be considered to be openings, unless they are demonstrated to be capable of resisting the applied wind pressures.

New builds must have a door rated to the local wind levels; otherwise, the door will be considered an opening. Refer to a wind region map to learn more about your local wind levels.

If you need a heavier-duty door for cyclonic regions, check out our WindStrong doors.
