At Door Supply, we are proud to be a leading supplier of Taurean® Door Systems. Known for their "Pr1me" and "NovaTaur" collections, Taurean doors are a staple of Australian sheds and garages because of their balanced spring systems and high-quality BlueScope steel.

If you are a DIYer, the most critical thing to know before you buy is that in Australia, we order by the Curtain Size (the door size), not the Opening Size. If you order based only on the "hole in the wall," your door will be too narrow to stay in the tracks!

Here is how to calculate your measurements for a perfect Taurean installation.

1. The Calculation: Opening vs. Curtain Size

To get a weather-tight seal and ensure the door doesn't blow out of the guides, the door curtain must be wider than the opening.

  • For Taurean Series A (Single Doors up to 3430mm wide): * Add 50mm to your opening width (25mm overlap on each side).

  • For Taurean Series AA (Double Doors over 3430mm wide): * Add 100mm to your opening width (50mm overlap on each side).

  • Height: Your ordered height should match your opening height. The extra "roll" material is already accounted for by the manufacturer.

Example: If your brick-to-brick opening is 2400mm wide, you should order a 2450mm wide curtain.

2. The 4 Essential Measurements

Grab a steel tape measure and record your dimensions in millimetres (mm).

A. Opening Width & Height

Measure the "Daylight Opening" (the hole). Measure the width at the top, middle, and bottom, and use the largest width, then add the required overlap to calculate your curtain size.

B. Headroom (The "Roll" Clearance)

Measure from the underside of the lintel to the lowest point of the ceiling.

  • Taurean Requirement: Most residential Taurean roller doors require 350mm to 450mm of headroom. If you have a restricted space you might need to consider a Sectional Panel door with a "Low Headroom" solution.

C. Side Room (For Tracks and Motor)

Measure the flat wall space behind the jambs where the tracks will be mounted.

  • Non-Motor Side: 100mm minimum.

  • Motor Side: 250mm minimum (to accommodate an automatic Opener).

D. Back Room

Ensure you have enough depth into the garage (Opening Height + 500mm) so the door and tracks don't hit any rafters or lights.

5. Frequently Asked Questions

Why does Taurean require different overlaps for single vs double doors?

Wider doors (Series AA) are subject to higher wind loads and physical stress. A larger 50mm overlap per side ensures the door remains securely inside the tracks even during heavy gusts or high-cycle use.

Can I cut a Taurean roller door down to size?

We do not recommend cutting the door yourself as it can damage the Colorbond® finish and affect the spring tension. All our Taurean doors are made to order—just provide us with your exact curtain size, and it will arrive ready to fit.

What is the best motor for a Taurean door?

Taurean doors pair perfectly with high-torque slimline openers. Check our Automation Collection for units specifically designed for the Australian DIY market.
