Before specifying, investigate prevailing wind direction and expected maximum velocities at site. Read about the Construction Code Changes here
The B&D Wind-Rated Roll-A-Door meets the National Construction Code’s high-wind requirements, guaranteeing property protection.
The B&D Wind-Rated Roll-A-Door is certified for high-wind and cyclone-prone regions in Australia. It provides resistance against high winds, making it perfect for homes, sheds, and commercial properties.
B&D’s innovative wind-locking technology includes a unique clip design on every Wind-Rated Roll-A-Door. These clips secure the door in place during high winds, minimizing the risk of it being forced open and providing added security against intruders.
Note: Wind Locked may not be provided with fasteners for the Brackets and Guides.
Please refer to your building designer for the fastener specification and to ensure you source the correct screws. Fasteners in the parts boxes are standard doors and are not rated for Wind Lock doors.
Installing a roller door yourself is a rewarding project that can save you hundreds of dollars.
But are garage doors hard to install on your own? The short answer: not if you have the right tools, a mate to give you a hand, and guidance. That’s why we’ve put together this comprehensive DIY garage door installation guide, full of step-by-step instructions, tips, and videos to help you how to install a roller door correctly the first time.
Before you start your roller door installation, check the following:
All supporting walls are structurally sound to avoid damage.
You have the correct fasteners for your structure.
You have adequate space above the doorway to house the rolled-up garage door and fittings.
The surface above the doorway is flush and free from any protrusions.
You have sufficient room on each side of the doorway for the tracks.
Your work area is clear of obstructions.
You wear appropriate safety gear—gloves, boots, and safety goggles.
Tools you’ll need
Your checklist for garage door installation should include the following materials:
Two-step ladders
A laser level
A spirit level
Screwdrivers and a pipe wrench
A power drill and drill bits
A softwood chock about 400mm long
A socket set
A tape measure and a Stanley knife
A marker pen or pencil
How to prepare
Clear the area: Remove vehicles and stored items.
Check power access: Ensure outlet availability for motorised doors.
Inspect the opening: Verify measurements and structural integrity.
Gather tools: Have everything ready before starting.
Review instructions: Read through the entire installation guide first.
Arrange help: Have an assistant available for lifting.
Pre-installation tips
When your roller door arrives, inspect each component against the installation checklist. Keep the protective strapping around your door intact until installation. Review the installation instructions specific to your door and ensure your workspace is clear of obstructions before you begin.
What is supplied
Each Door comes with guides (tracks) and a parts box. To see what is in the box click here
If you order a lock this is usually clipped to the end of the door roll.
Mark bracket positions: Measure the roller door width and mark it on each wall, adding the extra width required (as noted on your model’s installation instructions).
Check clearances: Ensure there’s enough headroom and side space for installation.
Mount the first bracket: Hold it in place, mark the holes, drill, and bolt securely (weld if attaching to steel framework).
Level and mount the second bracket: Use a laser level to align and install the bracket on the opposite wall.
Lift the rolled-up door: With assistance and safe lifting methods (ropes, etc.), raise the door and rest it on the brackets.
Fit the axle: Slide the axle into the bracket slots with the door facing forward to roll down the front.
Secure loosely: Attach U-bolts and saddles, then centre the door in the opening. Rotate the curtain: Turn the door so the bottom edge ends up inside the garage.
Step 2: Set spring tension
Attach axle: Secure the axle to the brackets using washers and nuts.
Apply spring tension: Rotate the door forward as specified in your manual (turn count depends on door size).
Cut the strapping: Have your mate cut the straps while you maintain spring tension.
Lower curtain and secure: Gently pull the curtain down and place a wooden chock to hold it until the tracks are installed.
Test the door: Repeat the process if needed.
Step 3: Install the tracks
Check alignment: Pull the door down, ensuring an even overlap on both sides of the opening.
Fit the first track: Slide the first track onto the curtain edge and loosely fasten it to the wall.
Repeat on the other side: Use a spirit level to ensure both tracks are perfectly vertical.
Test door movement: Slide the door up and down to check tension and track clearance. Adjust if needed.
Secure tracks: Once satisfied, tighten all fasteners.
Attach handle and weight bar: Fit the external handle and, if included, the weight bar to the bottom rail for added stability.
How to install a roller door opener
Installing roller door motors doesn’t involve any electrical wiring (as long as you already have a power outlet near your door), so they’re easy to install yourself.
Check door balance: Ensure your roller door operates smoothly manually first.
Mount the motor: Install above the door centre using the provided brackets.
Attach drive shaft: Connect the drive shaft to the motor and adjust to the correct length.
Install safety sensors: Position safety sensors on both sides of the opening, properly aligned.
Plug in the system: Connect the motor, sensors, and controls per the manufacturer's diagram.
Program settings: Set travel limits, force settings, and remote controls.
Test thoroughly: Run multiple cycles and verify that the safety sensors work.
Always follow your specific door’s installation instructions. We also recommend hiring a professional garage door installer as a safety precaution and for peace of mind.
Post-installation maintenance
Modern garage doors need minimal routine maintenance, but we recommend you follow this six-monthly checklist to keep things running smoothly.
General cleaning and inspection
Wipe down the door curtain using a soft cloth or sponge with mild detergent and warm water.
Rinse immediately with clean water to avoid residue buildup.
Inspect the brackets, springs, tracks, fasteners, cables, and weather seal for signs of wear or damage.
Lubrication tips
Apply grease or oil to the springs to keep them operating quietly.
Avoid lubricating the locking mechanism, as that may cause it to malfunction.
Don’t oil the tracks. Instead, clean them occasionally using a spirit-based cleaner.
Door balance test
Check the spring tension by performing a simple balance test:
Close the door.
Lift it to waist height.
If the door stays in place, the spring tension is correct. If it moves, you may need to rebalance the spring.
Re-tensioning the spring
Spring maintenance can be dangerous. Garage door springs are under high tension and can cause serious injury if mishandled. If you're unsure, we recommend consulting professional services. Only proceed if you are confident in your ability and have assistance.
Tie ropes around each end of the door roll to secure it.
Both you and your assistant should be on ladders at each end of the door.
Grip the axle firmly using a large pipe wrench.
Loosen the U-bolt nuts at both ends while maintaining grip on the wrench.
Rotate the axle clockwise to increase tension and anticlockwise to reduce it.
Re-tighten the U-bolts and carefully release the pipe wrench.

Custom Roller Door
Good morning, I ordered a custom roller door from your company a couple of weeks ago, I was given the delivery date of 13th May. At the time of order I thought like most companies this would just be an estimated date and understand things can be delayed. I was very happy to receive a delivery update on the 13th and received a call several hours prior of when the driver expected to arrive at my delivery address. He arrived at the time he had advised and was very friendly.
I printed the installation instructions and when installing found these very east to follow.
The door has been installed by myself and is working wonderfully with no issues.

A good buying experience
A good buying experience, (diy installer) instructions of how to measure the opening size were easy enough to understand and how to size the door order appropriately was clear. The product I was buying and what options were available for it was also well marketed. The pickup point was well accessible and the staff there were quite helpful and friendly loading us up. Thanks very much

As far as the door itself, a Taurean door, the review is only positive, seems like a very good door, functions very well, very happy with the product and its appearance. Thanks for that. I was rather disappointed in the installation instructions though, the pictoral and instructional detail was lacking. A frustrating amount of times where you didn't know exactly how a part was to be installed, because the picture didn't show enough detail, for instance, the angle iron support brackets that hold the plastic curve of the rail, one side of them was pressed to a different shape than the other, but the instructions just showed a plain piece of angle iron with holes, so you didn't know where the pressed side was to be located. Also there was a few times in the instructions where assemblies were magically assembled in a picture in a step, but didn't show enough detail to show exactly how they were assembled. I seem to remember this was the case with the flag brackets and the things that were attached to them. It also wasn't immediately obvious how they were supposed to be assembled, it was really only once I had the door fully assembled and functioning that I was sure I had done it right. If you're going to market something as diy, you need to write the instructions for someone with 0 door installation knowledge, not for a tradie that does them regularly and doesn't need the instructions anyway. Really the door makers should take tips from the people that wrote the installation instructions for the merlin door opener, because they were extremely clear, well illustrated and very step by step. And also the door opener works great, thanks very much for that.
